Stoke City

Tony Pulis has turned Stoke City into a formidable Premier League side, whose fans are among the fiercest, and loudest, England's top tier has to offer. Often criticised for what people believe to be a bullish mentality, the side now contains some flair and is starting to shed the long ball tag that was associated with them for so long. They will be hoping to better last seasons 13th place finish this time round.

Goalkeeper

Asmir Begovic is widely expected to cement the number one spot this season, casting a shadow over Thomas Sorenson's future at The Potters. Having two good quality keepers though is by no means a bad thing, and during their time at the top table of English football this has never been a worry.

Defence

Big imposing centre half's are the order of the day, with Captain Ryan Shawcross and Robert Huth forming a good partnership over the years. The signing of Jonathan Woodgate is a risk, but if they can keep him fit, a problem for many of his past clubs, then he could prove to be one of the best captures of the window.

Midfield


Their is quite a creative edge in this side now, bucking the trend of a few years back. Matthew Etherington is arguably the main man in this side, but Jermaine Pennant has also settled down and produced some good displays after a disappointing few years. There is quite a lot of strength in the middle of the park, so this side seems quite well stocked.

Forwards

A new front man seems to on Pulis's agenda, but just who that person is remains a mystery. The long chase for Carlton Cole has gone a bit awry, but it wouldn't be a surprise if by the end of the window his is plying his trade at The Brittania. If a new man does arrive though, there will have to be a clear out of some of the deadwood.

Manager

Despite the belief that Stoke area a one dimensional side, Pulis has got them playing some good football. He has firmly transformed them into a Premiership side, and it doesn't look like they will be leaving the top table any time soon.

Areas to Strengthen

A new striker could be on the cards, with no real 20+ goal front man on the books. Elsewhere this side looks all set for another mid tabled finish, maybe a bit of strength in depth could be added to ensure progression on last term.

Expectations

Mid table shouldn't be too far out of reach for this side, although any kind of improvement on last season will please everyone involved with this club. The Brittania is not an easy place to go and win, and the Stoke faithful will no doubt be the loudest once more as they roar their team up the table.

Queens Park Rangers

After surging to the Championship title last season, there are high hopes amongst Rangers fans that they could just stay in the top division. Not only that but that they could finish well above the drop zone. Neil Warnock is certain to stay on as coach while playmaker Adel Taarabt also looks like staying on, however the lack of cash available could be a sticky point.

Goalkeeper

Paddy Kenny has Premier League experience, and is clearly trusted by Warnock who coached the Irish man at Sheffield United. Radek Cerny is also a viable back up, so you wouldn't expect too many worries here.

Defence

There is also a large mentality similar to Norwich here, where as most of the side who got the side into the league could be trusted. Danny Gabbidon has brought it to breathe some experience into the back four, and this could be a good signing should he be able to stay injury free.

Midfield

 Gabbidon's former West Ham United team mate Kieron Dyer no doubt has talent, and if he can once and for all stay fit, he will be a danger for most defences. The controversial Alejandro Faurlin may fee he has a point to prove, but it is the enigmatic Taarabt who will be the main threat.

Forwards

This has been identified as a weak point within this squad, and the new boys will be trusted with preserving this sides Premier League status. DJ Campbell make a good impression last season, but Jay Bothroyd will have to prove critics wrong.

Manager

Divides opinion throughout the country, but experience could be key here. Has brought teams up before, but has also led them right back down. However he arguably has far more talent at his disposal here than he has done before.

Areas to Strengthen

When you are a new side in this division. strengthening can always take place. However with no money available that is easier said than done. Other sides coming up have spent more cash, but they should still have enough to avoid the dreaded drop back down.

Expectation

Like most sides coming up, staying here will be enough for most of the Loftus Road faithful. Some may let their minds wander and think of a mid table finish, but preservation will be the priority.

Norwich City

Living the dream probably falls a little short of describing the ecstasy Norwich City fans are feeling at the moment. Paul Lambert has worked miracles in getting back to back promotions, and a return to the big time must have seemed light years away not so long ago. Everyone will be looking at Queens Park Rangers as the new threat, but this side would well be the surpise package of the Premier League 2011/12.

Goalkeeper

Ex Everton trainee John Ruddy was never really given a proper chance at Goodison Park, and after numerous loan moves he excelled after signing for The Canaries last summer. Maybe not the most experienced keeper in the division, but will revel in proving his old employers that they were wrong to discard him.

Defence

With two new defensive signings already made, Paul Lambert clearly thought they were a little short here. This will be the key to ultimately deciding if this side stays in the Premier League beyond this season, if the defence copes they could swin but if overwhelmed they will definitely sink.

Midfield

Again strengthening has taken place here, and largely throughout the squad Lambert has gone for young talent eager to prove themselves. He beat a host of clubs to the signings of each of the three that have arrived to bolster the middle of the park. However a large chunk of the squad that got them here will be given the chance to keep their top flight status, as promised by the boss after promotion was secured.

Forwards


Grant Holt is the enigma of the Norwich attack, plundering the goals that helped drive his side to the runners up spot in the Championship. Steve Morison has been added, who they hope can step up, and James Vaughan, who is adament he still has what it takes to make it in the top flight. However a striker of proven Premiership talent is still missing, and this could be their major flaw.

Manager

Lambert cannot currently put a foot wrong in his part of the world, such is the esteem he is held in after turning around this side around. The ludicrous terms 'fallen giant' et al can now be forgotten about, but it doesn seem like he could have his work cut out in keeping his side in the big time. Although that was said about a second straight promotion and look what happened their.

Areas to Strengthen

Some players have arrived, and it seems that Norwich are largely relying on players to step up to the demands of the Premier League than shell out over the odds on experience. This could be risk, or it could breathe new life and confidence into his squad.

Expectations

Fans will by no means by getting ahead of themselves, and Premier League survival would mean the world to them

Newcastle United

After the shock relegation, the bizarre sacking of Chris Hughton who led them back to the Premier League and some strange goings on with keep players so far this summer Newcastle are definitely back. Although without the ludicrous expectations which blighted them years ago. Alan Pardew seems to have a unity within the squad, and despite the sale of star striker Andy Carroll in January they still finished the season well. Last seasons 12th place should well be in reach.

Goalkeeper

Once upon a time this was a position that that The Magpies never need to worry about, all that has changed now. Steve Harper is a good quick fix, while Fraser Forster will be number one before Tim Krul. Not a great deal of quality, but plenty of potential, and it is maybe that potential that encourages Alan Pardew not to sign someone new.

Defence

Captain Fabricio Coloccini seems to have regained composure and quality, that seemed to be lacking when he first made the switch from La Liga to the Premier League. Elsewhere there is strength but no real big physical presence. The potential departure of Jose Enrique also takes away some threat up the flank, which will need to be sorted out.

Midfield

One key man Kevin Nolan has left while last seasons player of the season Joey Barton doesn't look to far behind. Two new men have already arrived to add some strength, while key man Hatem Ben Arfa was a huge miss after receiving that season ending injury in the winter. Jonas Gutierrez can also help the Frenchman with his creative juices, which bodes well for the free flowing attacking game plan taking hold at St James' Park.

Forwards

After the record sale of Carroll it was expected that they would struggle up front, but Pardew reinvigorated his team and especially strike force to ensure a good finish. However they needed some fresh attacking talent and now that has arrived in the shape of Demba Ba. It does seem another attacker of real quality should be added though.

Manager

Pardew has worked wonders since he was made boss, following Hughton's departure. The squad has a unity and the fans even seem to be on side, very good steps to achieving Premiership consolidation.

Areas to Strengthen

A new goalkeeper would improve the squad, but in the not too distant future one of their young guns will be more than ready to step up. A new striker to partner Ba and provide a real goal threat, and all round strengthening to ensure a squad is in place to challenge on fronts all season.

Expectations

After relegation, Newcastle fans have really reeled in their expectations following the title wins that was once demanded. Consolidation with small steps forward will be enough to satisfy the fiercest of loyal fans.

Manchester United

After over taking close rivals Liverpool with 19 Premier League titles last season, confidence is at an all time high on the red half of Manchester. Chelsea and their City rivals will be their closest challengers this time round, but it is hard to look past Sir Alex Ferguson's men clinching their 20th title this time round.

Goalkeeper

Long term target David De Gea has arrived to take over from the now retired Edwin Van Der Sar. The Dutchman has been a terrific servant to many sides, and shone in his later years at Old Trafford. Anders Lindegaard came in in January as back up, but the big problem here is that there could be one too many keepers on the books.

Defence

Another area in which this side is ridiculously strong, and more bodies have added even more depth. Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand will be the first choice, injuries providing that is. Chris Smalling and new boy Phil Jones provide very adequate back up though, and could well be the future England partnership.

Midfield

WIth Paul Scholes retiring the rumour mill is in over drive about a replacement, with Wesley Sneijder the name cropping up more than most. However despite this, the Midfield is still strong with steel and creativity in abundance. With Ashley Young their is now another dimension added, and depth is certainly here for all to see.

Forwards


Wayne Rooney will once again be the focal point of this sides attacking intent, but after his excellent debut season Javier Hernandez will be expected to perform to that level once again. Dimitar Berbatov could have to seek pastures new if he wants regular first team football, and that highlights even more strength in this team.

Manager

Everyone knows the successes that the Scot has had, and nothing knew can be said about this man that has not already been said. The pressure will certainly be on the next man in the hot seat when he eventually steps aside.

Areas to Strengthen

On the outset this side looks complete, plenty of depth with experience and young talent blended. Sneijder could well be the final piece of the jigsaw, and would be a huge hit in the Premiership with this side.

Expectations

Another League title will be the least of the expectations places upon Manchester United this season. A good showing in Europe, and maybe avenging last seasons final defeat would be desired but it is hard to look beyond Barcelona.

Manchester City

The new side on the end of every supporters hatred? Perhaps. Jealousy? Probably. But everyone concerned with this club can't afford to be too bothered with those outside looking in, they need to improve, or at least consolidate, on last seasons achievements. The whole country wants them to fail, but the reality is that they have now turned the Premier League into a three horse race.

Goalkeeper

Joe Hart has well and truly consolidated himself at number one, with Shay Given now sold to Aston Villa to stave off the splinters from that City bench. He is prone to the odd mistake, but nobodies perfect, and fans worldwide will have to get used to him because he surely has over a decade of being not just his club's first choice but England's too. Stuart Taylor provides decent enough back up.

Defence

Despite already being strong in this area, two more bodies have arrived to bolster a stern defence further. Youngster Stefan Savic, coveted by many of the top European sides, is now at Eastlands along side Gael Clichy, who snubbed Liverpool to join Roberto Mancini's men. In reality they could probably field two very strong back fours, so competition for places should ensure that level of performance stays high.

Midfield


Adam Johnson, lauded as one of the new breed for the national side, can't even get into the starting eleven at his club. That shows the level that this side are now competing. James Milner is expected to have a more prominent role this time round, where Nigel De Jong and Yaya Toure continue to endear themselves to the city faithful.

Forwards

New record signing Sergio Aguero has arrived from Atletico Madrid, raised expectations further still. Edin Dzeko, a £27m arrival from Wolfsburg in January, should also have s heavy role this year despite his poor performances so far. Mario Balotelli, an undoubted talent, should also stay even after his 'I don't like Manchester' moan recently. Carlos Tevez is still seeking a way out, as are Roque Santa Cruz, Craig Bellamy and Emmanuel Adebayor who were all left behind when the first team jetted out to the States.

Manager

Roberto Mancini seems to have the confidence of everyone concerned with the club, and has built a side which should compete on all levels. The FA Cup win last year ended the long wait for silverware, whilst also ridding Old Trafford of the banner that has taunted them all these years. A first Champions League outing could be the real test, but with the calibre of player at his disposal it wouldn't be surprising to see them reach the latter stages.

Areas to Strengthen

No where in this side really needs any more strength. They have strength in depth at all levels, however if a truly world class player came up they would no doubt try their hardest to clinch the signature. Especially if that person is Wesley Sneijder and bitter rivals Manchester United also want him.

Expectations

They are no doubt very very high. Consolidation on last years league position will be the minimum that will be expected, while more silverware would be desired. However if a real push for the title is made that will show great progression, and you would think would keep the majority of the fans and board room happy.

Liverpool

Following a disastrous start to last season, it looked as though Liverpool could well be in the mire. However following the dismissal of Roy Hodgson and the welcoming back of Kenny Dalglish, their fortunes soon turned around. A terrific end to the season saw them come 6th, and with a mjor rebuilding plan in operation the Champions League is on the mind once again.

Goalkeeper

Jose Reina has broke records galore during his stint on Merseyside, if it wasn't for Iker Casillas he would be the Spanish number one and renowned worldwide as the one the finest around. Following doubts about his future towards the end of the season he confirmed he would stay, giving the side a major boost. Alexander Doni has also just arrived from Roma, providing a very good and solid deputy.

Defence

It is no secret that this Liverpool rearguard could do with a touch of TLC. A new left back is definitely is desperate need, while a central defender would also be welcomed with open arms. Jamie Carragher is getting no younger and Daniel Agger continues to be pestered by injuries, Martin Skrtel continues to perform however after completing every Premier League game last season.

Midfield

There is certainly no shortage of central midfielders at the club, but the more pressing concern is in the right wing berth. Dirk Kuyt could continue to operate there, but a more natural wide man would be the ideal solution. Stewart Downing has brought it for the opposite flank, while Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam have added strength to the middle.

Forwards


It is hoped the £50+ partnership will really flourish at Anfield this season. While Luis Suarez had an immediate impact in England, racking up countless man of the match awards, Andy Carroll spent much of the time on the sidelines after arriving with an injury. David Ngog seems like he could be on the way out, so at least one more front man will need to be signed.

Manager

Dalglish has really united the club since his return, extinguishing the anguish and negativity that surrounded the previous brief regime. End of season form has really raised expectations, as has the lavish spending spree that is currently being enjoyed.

Areas to Strengthen

Despite the money already spent in this window and January, there is still plenty of improvements to be made. A left back must be the priority, while a centre back, right winger and striker would also be desired.

Expectations

Ignore all the talk of the title that is simply way out of reach, a return to the Champions League would be a huge coup for this side. It is still a rebuilding process at Liverpool, and they must first take small steps back into Europe's club competition before getting ahead of themselves in true style.
